Description

In 2026, there will be two variants of the new Zwanze bottling in collaboration with Vermouth Sullivan in Jura, France: a red, and a white vermouth lambic hybrid.

The red variant (inspired by a base of red wine) is a base of kriek lambic, while the white variant uses a classic gueuze, both blended with their own concentrated Vermouth liquor displaying a unique profile.

History / Side-Notes

Vermouth is a fortified and aromatized wine, meaning a base wine is fortified with a distilled spirit and flavored with botanicals like herbs, spices, and roots, with wormwood being a mandatory ingredient. It comes in various types, most commonly sweet red (rosso) and dry white, and is used both as a cocktail ingredient and enjoyed on its own.

Vermouth Sullivan is a small artisanal company creating small batches craft Vermouth in the Jura region of France, using unique local wines (like oxydative Savagnin, Chardonnay, Poulsard or Pinot Noir) to produce their products. The Van Roy Family became familiar with their products during the Salon des bières Sauvages event, held in Arbois each year and organized by Aymeric Tissot from the Levain brewery, also son of Stéphane Tissot who provides the Vin Jaune barrels for La Vie est Belge as well as the grapes for La Corvée.

For Zwanze 2026, a test batch was realized at different pourcentages of liquor added to each version, in order to establish the right balance in the final beer.

Zwanze day 2026 is planned for April, 25th. It will be the first edition ever to present two beers created for the event instead of one.
