Cantillon Soleil De Minuit
Description
Cantillon Soleil De Minuit is a lambic with 300 g/L of cloudberries added and bottled exclusively for Akkurat in Stockholm, Sweden. For the first batch, fresh cloudberries were added directly to the oak barrel with two year old lambic poured on top. The process was repeated for the second batch using frozen cloudberries added to a single oak barrel. It is available in 375 mL, 750 mL, and 1.5 L bottles.
History / Other Notes
Soliel de Minuit made its debut in 1999. It was released to Akkurat in three sizes, all of which came with a paper wrapping the bottle. Due to Sweden's alcohol control system, Systembolaget, the beer was not available to go. In 2013, after many rumors, Soleil de Minuit was made again and sent to Akkurat. A third batch was bottled in 2015 and released in celebration of Akkurat's 20th Anniversary.
Unsubstantiated Stories
Some have reported that Systembolaget did sell a small quantity of the original 1999 batch through the Swedish alcohol stores. Some bottles from the 2013 second batch discovered in an Italian private cellar were found to have official Italian import labels.
It has been confirmed in 2025 by Stene Isacsson (owner of Akkurat) through a text sent to Jean Van Roy[1] that the beer was actually sold through a peculiar system. Indeed, a friend of his working at Systembolaget offered to help with the sale, people would pay Akkurat for the bottle and they could pick it up in the Systembolaget he was working at (and only there). That person ended up being actually fired as it wasn't done officially, which created a local scandal at the time. GIven the context, it is plausible that the bottles found with Italian import labels were shipped by this person using the Systembolaget network.
