Description

Cantillon Reine des Prés is a lambic with meadowsweet (French: Reine des Prés, literally Queen of the Meadows) added. It was first bottled in 2015 in 750 mL format, and the ABV is listed as 5.5%

History / Other Notes

The original batch of Reine des Prés, bottled in 2015, was not publicly released for sale, due in part to the meadowsweet character being extremely strong. This batch was bottled for Bouchéry restaurant in Brussels, and intended as a food pairing lambic. A second batch was bottled in June 2017, and released as one part of an exclusive six pack of beers for the BXLBeerFest in August 2017.

Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria) has been traditionally used in various stews, wines, beers, meads, vinegars, and other beverages due to its pleasant, somewhat sweet taste. The plant (or various parts of it) have also been used in traditional medicine to treat various ailments, and contains chemicals used to make aspirin.
