Description
Hanssens Oudbeitje Lambic is a regularly released lambic with Belgian strawberries added. It is available in 375ml bottles and is labeled as 6% ABV.
History / Other Notes
Hanssens Oudbeitje is currently the only commercially available, non-back sweetened strawberry lambic on the market. It was first blended in 2000 with a blend of Boon and Girardin lambic. In May of 2000, 150 kg of Belgian strawberries were added to every 600 liter barrel of two year old lambic. Oudbeitje was first bottled in March 2001 and continues to be a regular presence in the Hanssens lineup.[1]
Unsubstantiated Stories
The "Master's Collection Limited Edition 2000" label is reportedly the first commercial bottling of Oudbeitje, and the label may have been used for several vintages after that. Picture below is a "Master's Collection Limited Edition 2006" label as well. Since the beer was initially made for the American market, no other number dating system was used on the labels; only lot numbers. Though it is only available commercially in 375ml bottles, B.
