Dewolfs was founded in 1784 in Watermael-Boitsfort near Brussels, and operated as a successful lambic brewery until 1960. In 1866, Joannes Dewolfs was the landowner and brewer. In 1885, a "J.-Ph. (Jean Phillipe) Dewolfs" was listed in the catalogue of the world's fair. In the early 20th century, it was operated by Edouard & Henri Dewolfs.
