Description

Boon Vat 86 Monoblend is a geuze blended from 90% old lambic (2 years and 7 months at the time of bottling) from foeder #86 and 10% young lambic. It was released in 375ml bottles and is labeled as 8.5% ABV.

History / Other Notes

Label Notes:

Foeder #86 is made with half new (2016) staves and half with old staves. With this combination Vat 86 is characterized by touches of woodcaramel as in cognac, smokey vanilla aromas and aromas of peaches and tropical fruit. Brewed on April 28, 2016 and bottled on November 29, 2018.

Other Notes:

Foeder #86 is a 5,000 liter barrel from 1935. The foeder is part of a series of two and was specially built to be placed at the end of the barrel room. Front and back are as big as a 10,000 liter cask, but the staves are very short, which makes the casks look like tambourines and the brewer has nicknamed them "tamboerkes". The front and rear bottoms of these foeders needed to be replaced because of the frequent use. The brew of April 28, 2016 was the first filling after the renewal of foeder #86.
