History
Established 1931 by Jules Wambacq in Essene, who was the town mayor from 1908-1933. Located at the corner of Eksterenberg and Fooststraat, the site dates back to 1640, including a brewery owned by the Wambacq family. Faro was first brewed here in 1848. Following WWII, Ankerhof lost their brewing license and contract brewed at the Artevelde brewery in Wambeek. Brasserie Ankerhof produced Faro, Gueuze, Kriek, Mars, and was active from 1931-1957.
