History

Founded in 1933 in Essene by Jules Wambacq, who was the mayor of Essene at the time. Located at the corner of Eksterenberg and Fooststraat, the site dates back to the early 16th century as a brewery owned by the Wambacq family. Faro was first brewed here in 1848. Brasserie Ankerhof produced Faro, Gueuze, Kriek, Mars, and was active from 1933-1957.
