Description

Cantillon Mourvèdre-Carignan is a two-year old lambic macerated with Mourvèdre and Carignan grapes. It was released for on-site consumption at the brewery in 2019 and bottled in 75cl bottles. It is listed as 6.5% ABV.

History / Other Notes

Mourvèdre-Carignan is a unique grape lambic in Cantillon's portfolio. In 2018, there were not enough Carignan grapes harvested from Zélige-Caravent, so they instead sent 80kg of Carignan and 220kg Mourvèdre. During the maceration process the tank was only 2/3 full because there were not enough grapes to top the tank. By mistake, when some of the workers at Cantillon were asked to top a Rosé de Gambrinus tank they topped both the Gambrinus tank as well as the Mourvèdre-Carignan tank beside it. This resulted in a lower fruit concentration of 180 grams of fruit per liter instead of the standard 250-300 grams per liter for the grape lambics.
