Moriau Geuze
Description
Moriau Geuze is a geuze produced by Boon under the Moriau name since 1994. It is available in 375ml and 750ml bottles and is labeled as 7% ABV. It was formerly produced for the Moriau family café in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, Herberg Moriau, until it's closure in 2013. Currently it is produced for Drankenservice Schoentjes, a local beer shop in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw.
History / Other Notes
According to Frank Boon, "Moriau and Dekoninck were both lambic blenders, they stopped bottling in 1978 and 1980 respectively. From then on their geuze and kriek was bottled by De Neve brewery in Schepdaal. At the closing of De Neve in 1994, they asked me to do the production for both of them in the style of De Neve. These extra hectolitres were important for me as the total production of Boon brewery was less than 2000 HL in that year. It is also the year that I started to supply lambic wort to the remaining blenders. To conform with the legal obligations, the Moriau and Dekoninck bottles were labeled (instead of white dash with chalk). Today I make one small blend every year for each of these blenders, and yes it tastes similar to our Boon Oude Geuze as it is a blend of 100% Boon lambic with the same alcohol % and age. The brands Moriau and Dekoninck do not belong to Boon brewery, they belong to the family and sucessors of these blenders."
