Description

Hibiscus de Boulbi is a blend of 1-, 2-, and 3- year old lambics with hibiscus infused. It is bottled in 75cl bottles and listed as 6.9% ABV. The first batch was blended by boiling 1.5kg of hibiscus flowers in 9 liters of lambic wort. After the boiling process, only 7.5 liters of this concentrate was left. This concentrated hibiscus lambic was then allowed to cool to 30 degrees centigrade and then blended with 112.5 liters of a lambic assemblage to achieve the final dilution. Approximately 150 bottles were produced in this first batch.

History / Other Notes

The idea for this fruited gueuze came about in 2015 when a friend of the blendery returned from Burkina Faso with hibiscus flowers from the village of Boulbi. In the spring of 2018, the process of creating the first hibiscus lambic commenced. It debuted on June 16, 2019 at an event at the gueuzerie at which bottles were served on-site for 25 euro each. All proceeds from the bottle sale went towards school supplies for the village school in Boulbi, Burkina Faso outside the capital city of Ouagadougou. This lambic was blended in memory of another friend of the geuzerie who was involved with the school who sadly who passed away in a plane crash in 2014.
