Description

3 Fonteinen Framboos is a lambic blended with raspberries from the Pajottenland. It is bottled in 750ml bottles and was labeled as 6% ABV until the 2018 release. As of 2018, exact ABV is reported on the label and varies from batch to batch.

History / Other Notes

3 Fonteinen Framboos has been released sporadically by the brewery since at least 1990. Bottles of the 1990 Framboos were sold at De Heeren van Liedekercke as recently as 2014. According to Armand Debelder, batches of Framboos were produced throughout the 90s for consumption in the restaurant and never officially released for sale. These bottles were not labelled, but marked with the traditional pink chalk mark, indicating a Framboos. The most recent major release of Framboos was bottled in 2014 and released at the brewery and through online shops in early 2015. The 2011 batch was released at the first Sour & Bitter Festival in 2012 where it was available to drink on-site as well as to take away for 200Dkr or about $35USD. The 2011 version was also available for sale for short periods of time through various online vendors.

In 2015, the new batch of Framboos received label approval for distribution in the United States.[1]

In 2018, 3 Fonteinen released a new batch of Framboos at Open Beer Days. This batch was a labeled as a lower ABV than previous bottlings. It used certified organic raspberries from the 2017 harvest produced by Ferme Framboos in Huldenberg, Belgium.

Since 2018, 3 Fonteinen Framboos is part of the regular lineup of releases.

01/17/2018 750ml 16th blend of the 2017-2018 season. This specific Framboos macerated for 5 months on fruit. The final fruit intensity is 37% (so 370 grams of fruit per liter of finished lambic. The organic raspberries come from Ferme Framboos. 3F Framboos 17 Jan 2018.jpg
06/19/2018 750ml 64th blend of the 18/19 season. With this specific Raspberry we have tackled it slightly differently to find a different balance: a shorter maceration period of 2.5 months and lower final fruit intensity of 268 grams per liter of raspberry. 08/22/2019 750ml 102nd blend of the 18/19 season. For this specific Framboos we used summer raspberries. The maceration was kept short in order to fuse the fruitiness, fruit acids, and soft lambics. The one and two year old lambic comes from 3 differnet barrels and 3 different brews. The final fruit intensity is 332 grams of raspberry per liter of Framboos. 10/08/2019 1.5L 115th blend of the 18/19 season. For this specific Framboose we used summer raspberries. The maceration lasted months. The one and two year old lambic comes from 3 differnet barrels and 3 different brews. The final fruit intensity is 332 grams of raspberry per liter of Framboos. 11/15/2019 750ml New label, non-screen printed bottle. 3rd blend of the 2019-2020 season. For this batch of Framboos, we used rapsberries from Ferme Framboos, located in beautiful Huldenberg, Flanders. These raspberries, hand-picked in teh summer of 2019, macerated for more than three months on a single oak barrel. While macerating, we only used lambik originating from one brew and one barrel, and we used another single lambik from one barrel for blending. This specific Framboos has a final fruit intensity of 310 grams of raspberries per liter of finished Framboos. The lambikken used come from three barrels and six different brews. 12/18/2019 375ml New label, non-screen printed bottle. 14th blend of the 2019-2020 season. This Framboos was created with raspberries from Ferme Framboos from beautiful Huldenberg. We macerated these for three months on jonge lamik from three different barrels and three different brews. We blended with another two jonge lambikken from two different barrels. Young lambic with Belgian raspberries added. Unfiltered. Spontaneous refermentation in the bottle. No artificial colors or flavor enhancers added. O.B.P. Trophy 1993

Oak aged lambic with 30% raspberries of Pajottenland area. Spontaneous fermentation in the bottle, not filtered. Lambic is brewed with 60% malted barley, 40% wheat, aged hops and water. OPEN CAREFULLY. This beer was created on special request from Jeppe and Henrik (Drikkeriget) whom assisted Armand Debelder in the selection of the lambic which this Framboise is made of.

Label Text (2014 version):
One year old lambic brewed at 3 Fonteinen, with an addition of 30% whole fresh raspberries from the fabled Payottenland. No artificial colors or flavor enhancers added. Lambic is brewed only from 60% barley malt, 40% unmalted wheat, hops, and water.

For decades, Armand Debelder has worked as a Geuze blender - as did his father - mixing young and old lambics from other lambic brewers to create a classic Belgian beer. Recently, Armand has started brewing his own lambic. The 3 Fonteinen beers are among the very few traditional and authentic Geuzes and Lambics being made in Belgium today.
