Rear/Side Label Translation (some emphasis added in italics for clarification):
Today Liedekerke is an urbanized town, but the surrounding area once spoke to people’s imagination. Early medieval charters (900-1100) that speak about our local history already mention ‘De Heeren van Liedekercke’ (The Lords of Liedekercke). For more than 500 years this castle and its ‘heeren’ (lords) have played a role in the history of Flanders that should not be underestimated. Unfortunately, it was often besieged, and its complete demise started with the French Revolution. At the gate of this once renowned castle now lays ‘De Heeren van Liedekercke’! The festive opening of a beer bar by Joost and his parents Erik and Agnes in 1991 was a new milestone in its history and this in a time where beer wasn’t hyped yet. A beer menu with 30 kinds of beer was already extraordinary,… at ‘De Heeren van Liedekercke’ you could taste more than 200! Thanks to brother Tom – who passionately integrates the beer in different courses – the kitchen soon evolved into a beer kitchen. He achieved honorary positions in several competitions and has won gastronomic awards. On September 1st 2011, ‘De Heeren’ had existed for 20 years… but the lords are only strong because of their ‘dames’. Joost married Jessie (2003), Tom married Els (2011), and Helena (2008) gives us all strength to continue on the same path. Sister Annemie adds something special to our image with her lay-out and her art. After 20 years, ‘De Heeren van Liedekercke’ are once again well-known, this time on the international beer scene. The beer menu grows to more than 400 selections. On the occasion of the 10 year anniversary, the first ‘bierfeesten’ (beer festival) was organized. Lambic beers are the specialty of ‘De Heeren’. In 2010 we were recognized for this by winning the very first ‘Gouden Lambikstoemper’ award. ‘De Heeren’ and lambic are celebrating their porcelain anniversary today but each of us has a long and individual history. A beer tavern with that kind of tradition and background deserves a beer with a strong story. That is why lambic is the base of this artisanal birthday geuze. Are you familiar with our other creations? Heerenbier (1993), Cuvée J&J (2003), Sodalitas, the beer that creates friendships (2005), Crianza Helena (2008), Superblend (2011) and now this Anniversary blend (2011). ‘De Heeren’, this is tasting and discovering. Beautiful moments are experienced here. Enjoy this new beer; enjoy yourself often at ‘De Heeren’. Cheers!
