Description
Cantillon Cognac lambic was orignally a set of test batches of lambic brewed in 2003 named F-14 and F-17 and subsequently aged in Cognac barrels for one year. This test would prove to be an initial step in commercially producing a large-run Cognac barrel-aged lambic in 2007 under the name Cantillon 50 Degrees North - 4 Degrees East. There have been several other batches of Cognac Lambic, outlined below.
History / Other Notes
Cantillon Cognac Lambic was not sold at the brewery or distributed. It was available from the cask during the 2004 public brewing session at the brewery. Bottles were given to friends of the brewery, and a few bottles were also sold for onsite consumption at Akkurat in 2005, and to go at Ølbutikken in 2011.
In 2005 a second batch of lambic was brewed and placed into Cognac barrels. The 2005 batch would become the base lambic or component to the following beers:
Cantillon LH12, brewed March 5, 2005, bottled April 2, 2010,
Cantillon 50 Degrees North - 4 Degrees East, brewed March 2005, bottled March 30, 2007.
Cantillon Crianza Helena, bottled June 26, 2008 with the label stating that it is a blend comprising of 40 month old lambic from Cognac barrels (putting it around that 2005 date) as well as 30 month old Bordeaux barrel lambic and 15 month old young lambic.

On February 13, 2013, Cantillon posted pictures of new Cognac barrels with the following caption: "We have received today 8 Cognac barrels. These are coming from La Gabare - Cognac Grosperrin in Chermignac (France). The barrels have contained Petite Champagne from 1975 and were emptied November 2012. They will be filled in normally next week."[1]
