“Belle de Louvain” (used in these particular blends described here) is an ancient variety of Belgian origin, discovered in 1845 in the nursery of Mr. Van Mons in Louvain. The fruit is large and purple, rustic with a ferm and yet juicy flesh, and the tree blooms late, helping to avoid late spring frosts and producing good yields. The good resistance to fresher environments helped establish this plum in Belgium.
