History

Dewolfs was founded in 1784 in Watermael-Boitsfort near Brussels, and operated as a successful lambic brewery until 1960. In 1866, Joannes Dewolfs was the landowner and brewer. Dewolfs brewery was located at rue Middlebourg 66-68, and produced Faro, Gueuze, Gueuze Dewolfs, Gueuze Lambic, Kriek, Kriek Dewolfs, and Lambic Dewolfs. In 1900, a "J.-Ph. (Jean Phillipe) Dewolfs" was listed in the program of the world's fair. It was operated by Edouard & Henri Dewolfs in the early 20th century. Henri had two sons, Georges and Hippolyte, who may have continued brewery operations until 1960. In 1961, the brewery was acquired by Brasseries Unies.
