Description
Stout Rullquin is a blend produced by Gueuzerie Tilquin of lambic with Rulles Brune (from Brasserie Artisanale de Rulles). The blend, which ferments in barrels for 8 months before bottling, consists of 7/8 Brune and 1/8 lambic. The blend is made in the barrel, with a blend of young lambics from multiple sources chosen and added to each barrel before the barrels are filled with the Rulles Brune.
History / Other Notes
Tilquin typically receives the Brune in the summer, around July, and blends are generally packaged in March of the following year. Bottles are then conditioned for around 6 months before the blends are released around September. The first blend of Stout Rullquin was produced in the 2012-2013 season>. After the 2013-2014 season, the recipe for the Rulles Brune used to make Stout Rullquin was changed to slightly increase the roast level from the normal Rulles Brune recipe. This applies only to the Brune brewed for Gueuzerie Tilquin. Stout Rullquin was packaged in kegs in addition to bottles for the first time in the 2015-2016 season.
In 2016, bottles from the 2012-2013 batch of Stout Rullquin had become overcarbonated. Therefore, following the same process as used to produce Oude_(Gueuze_Tilquin)²_à_l’Ancienne, 1000 75 cl bottles were therefore opened and emptied into 2 wine barrels. However, in the case of (Stout Rullquin)², fresh barrels from Crozes-Hermitage were used after rinsing (but not fully cleaning) the barrels, giving additional wine character to the blend[1]. (Stout Rullquin)² was released in late 2016[2].
