Description

Tilquin Meerts, a mars style beer, is blended with one and two year old lambics as a component of Gueuze Tilquin (Draught Version) . It comes from wort provided by Brouwerij Boon. It is brewed with a lower amount of grain than usual and thus has a larger proportional hop content as the hop ratios are not reduced with the grain reduction.

Tilquin clarified via RateBeer in May 2013 that "the Meerts (or March in English) is a low alcohol lambic brewed by Boon for Gueuzerie Tilquin, to be used for making the Gueuze Tilquin (Draught Version). It helps to decrease the global level of alcohol of the blend. Traditionally, Meerts was obtained from the second wash of the grains, during filtration, and was fermented separately from the first wort... The particularity of this Meerts, is that it can be drunk very young (3-4 weeks), and was a sort of poor-man’s drink to have during field work."[1]

History / Other Notes

Tilquin Meerts was served at the brewery during the 2013 and 2015 Toer de Geuze.
