Overview

In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst (Insurance against Great Thirst), commonly referred to as Grote Dorst, is a lambic bar located in the village of Eizeringen, Belgium. The pub itself is very old, having previously been owned for 51 years by a woman named Marguerite until 1999. Slated to close after Christmas in 1999, brothers Kurt and Yves Panneels took over the pub. Renovations occurred from 2001-2005 while an effort was made to preserve the original character of the building. The pub is open on Sundays and church holidays, as well as when there is a funeral service at the nearby St. Ursula Church. [1]

Events

In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst also puts on a number of lambic events both in Belgium and abroad including the Nacht van de Grote Dorst in Belgium and the Night of Great Thirst in Maine, USA. Though not a blender or brewer, the pub generally participates in the HORAL Toer de Geuze, opening up for the day and serving various lambics from small casks and bottles.
